Got Hope?

Wed Nov 11, 2009, 10:10 PM
I saw this bumper sticker on a car while I was waiting to pick up my daughter outside the YMCA tonight. A friend told me “you should always write.” So tonight I grabbed a little notebook and a pen before heading out.

Got hope?

What is it about this life that gives me hope? What is my definition of hope, Jeff Winner. To me it is the possibility that things will be better tomorrow. It would be difficult to find a person that wouldn’t want something in their life to be better in the future. To me it is the idea that tomorrow will not be like today. At least we can expect it to be different. Because today wasn’t the best day of my life. Everyday should be the best day of your life. Tomorrow should be the best day of your life.

Tomorrow is constantly fluctuating between the past, present, and future. You never know which one will take up the majority of your thoughts that day. The balance between the past, present, and future is never equal. We either dwell on the past because “what could have been“, fantasize about the future until it becomes a hazy dream, or less frequently, we concentrate on the present so that the past fades away and the future becomes reality. Take what you need from the past and accept the rest, because it’s never going to change. Know exactly what you want your future to be. Spend most of your time creating thoughts in the present. Living in the present will make it possible to turn the future into the present.

Most of the time we can’t control what tense we live in. There are so many factors that send us dwelling on the past one day and the next dreaming of the future. Things that happen in our lives determine what tense the majority of our thoughts are created. The lucky ones can control it without trying very hard. Their minds remain at a more constant level, seemingly unaffected by day to day happenings. The rest of us have to work constantly to stay out of dwelling and fantasizing, and some will never be able to have the ability to live their life in the present.

What tense are you in? Today I am in the present. Tomorrow I do not know.

I am 31 years old. I am a self taught photographer and have been shooting for about 15 years. I started with a Minolta SLR with three lenes that my father gave me. I had a darkroom in the basement and spent a lot of time down there as a teenager. I stopped shooting for some time then picked it back up again about 5 years ago and began just letting my emotions out in my photography.

I hope you all enjoy looking through my images. I invite you to examine my entire body of work and show your support, thank you!
